a few days in the woods…

After weeks of Marina’s ceaseless screaming, things had gotten a bit “heavy” around here. I desperately needed a change of scenery and M. needed some peace & quiet. On a whim, I decided to pack up the car and head up to my parent’s trailer in the woods for a few days.

It was pretty amazing. We had gorgeous weather for three days straight. We spent hours each day wandering in nature, picking wildflowers, and playing at the park. I got a crash course in being a single parent to two. I never used the stroller and wore Marina the whole time. Roman spent more time on his feet than ever before and by the end of our days we crashed out with exhaustion and happy hearts.

It was good for my soul to spend uninterrupted quiet time with my two babies, close to nature’s heart. I got lost in a world of make believe. We saw dozens of turtles; Canadian geese (including a family with four tiny babies!); snails; a black bear; a swan; sandpipers, starlings; robins; and tons of spiders & caterpillars. I decided not to bring my big camera but captured some of the loveliness with my phone. This collection of photographs is my favourite one yet.

Love love love all these photos. A few nights in a cabin in the woods sounds completely amazing. In fact, I should look into something like that for Lyla and myself this summer. Nature is the best medicine.

How nice to have a little place of retreat. I feel like I, for the most part, am single parenting it over here to 2. Husband’s at work for most of the day and doesn’t get up in the night for feedings. So there’s that. Would be nicer to pull it off in the woods with so much beauty and places to explore all around. Kuddos to you for getting out and enjoying your days while you can, when you can 🙂 -Misty
