A Season of Opening…

I’ve sat down countless times to write this post. Not necessarily this post, with these pictures, but the post about this season in my life, about the last year–the transition, the unfolding, the opening. There is something that happens when you experience loss on a large scale, when you lose everything and re-start from the bottom. It is a re-shaping, a strengthening, a hardening and a softening all at once.

I’ve waited a long time to talk about becoming a blended family, not because I don’t want to share it, but because I know that I can lose it.

When I left my marriage, I essentially lost everything. My house, my possessions, and every that goes along with that. All I had left was us and what I could fit into a few duffel bags. Nothing prepares you for a shift like that. And no matter how much healing work you do, there is a place at your core that is irrevocably changed. You can heal and grow and begin again. You can build the foundation stronger this time around. But there is always a part of you that remembers how quickly it can all be swept away.

I think that’s what life is about. Recognizing that it can all be swept away in an instant, but loving still; loving hard; opening yourself to the risk of it, because even though you are terrified, you know that there is nothing more important than love. So you go on. You love. You lose. You learn. Every day you make the best choices that you are capable of and you have faith that it will be enough.

Nothing is perfect and nothing is promised; but I know love and in the end, that is so much more than enough.
