a day in our life

It’s been over a year since my last “day in our life” post, which is a little silly considering how much I love these posts. It’s easy to remember to document the big, important, adventurous days. But there’s something to be said for documenting the mundane days, too, right?

So at the beginning of the week, I decided to document our Thursday. Little did I know that the “normal” Thursday I anticipated would prove to be not-quite-so-normal after all. See, the babies had their shots on Wednesday and overnight they both became sick. Roman succumbed to a cold he’d been fighting and Marina became restless with a fever in the wee hours of the morning. On top of them being sick, after months of drought, the skies opened up and it poured with thunder & lightning to boot. So our typical outdoor play was foiled and we spent the day cooped up inside.

It all made for quite a boring day, but when you’re documenting the mundane, I suppose that boring isn’t such a bad thing.

a day in our life

This is how all of my days start, with the brightest smile from the little princess who sleeps in my arms. Even though she was feverish, she still had the brightest smile. Fever can’t bring her down. (As long as she’s never more than a couple of inches away from her Mama, that is!)

While my sweet girl wakes up from her beauty rest I grab my phone and check in on emails & social media.

The hour after we wake is my most productive time of day because it’s really the only time that Marina is well-rested and I can put her down for a bit. You’ll usually find me running around like a chicken with my head off at that time, trying to squeeze all of the stuff that needs to get done for the day into that little window of opportunity.

Our living area was in desperate need of tidying, but I was dragging from a 4 a.m. wake up call. So first, coffee.

I just love my “Live in the Moment” mug. It’s the perfect reminder to start the day off with the right mindset.

After coffee, I got to tidying. One of my favorite things to do is to organize & decorate our bar. It’s one of the very few places in our home that isn’t all about function and actually allows me to get a bit creative. This sweet fox figurine and this pretty “Trust God” plaque are recent additions that bring joy and precious reminders to that special space.

Most days Roman wakes up shortly after Marina and me. But on this day he slept in, probably because he was sick. By the time he woke up, Marina was ready for her first nap. She won’t sleep without me, so into the bedroom we went for her nap. Roman hung out with Papa & ate oatmeal. No photos since I was otherwise engaged…

After her nap, Marina was bright-eyed & bushy tailed. We played dress up which is absolutely typical for us. I just love these sweet Izzy & Owie baby fox leggings. They’re so soft & warm — perfect for fall. I’ve been dreaming up all sorts of warm weather outfits to pair them with.

We watched a couple episodes of Dora cuddled up on the couch with Roman and then he was ready for his nap. While Roman was sleeping, Matthew harvested a bunch of kale & cherry tomatoes from the garden. Then he roasted up kale & tomato chips for an afternoon snack. Unbelievably delicious.

I got a tiny bit of work done on the computer with my right hand while nursing Marina on my left side. Good grief. It’s an honest-to-goodness circus around here, friends.

Next up was lunchtime for baby girl. Sweet potatoes were on the menu today. We’ve recently started our foray into the wonderful world of solids & it’s such a sweet, silly mess!

M. & I were getting really hungry by this point in the day and neither of us had the ambition to cook, so we decided on takeaway from our favorite Irish restaurant. I suited up in my favorite baseball cap in a desperate attempt to hide the massive bags under my eyes & my unbrushed hair. I used to promise myself I’d never leave the house like this. Ha! #momlife

We returned home with the goods. This is the worst picture of the best fish & chips. So good. (Side note — I’ve had fish & chips all over the world and Thatcher McGhee’s in Pompton Lakes, NJ has the best!)

After our late lunch/early dinner, Marina was ready for her next nap. So into the bedroom we went while Papa & Roman built some giant Lego towers in the living room. When we emerged a little while later, we found my sweet boy in his highchair eating mac & cheese and watching Diego. Sick days are made for eating takeout & watching cartoons, right?

Soon after, we all started getting ready for bed. Roman did a bit of arts & crafts with me, while Marina had some “tummy time” with Papa.

We all headed off to bed early only to be woke up at 1:30 a.m. by a little boy with a 103-degree fever. But that’s a story for another day. ♥

First of all, what a great idea for a post. I have never done this and always wanted to. I must one day next week or soon! I’ve sadly never had fish and chips and I can’t at all imagine would it would taste like!!! For a second my vegetarian self wanted to eat that fish! Hahaha I love the idea of getting take out from a restaurant and bringing it home to eat, I’ve never done that. I order chinese, sushi, burritos, pizza, etc from like delivery places but they’re never as good as actual restaurants! I love that little fox figurine so much and is that Thomas Kinkade above? My mom has the same one I feel like!

Takeout from fancy restaurants has always been our thing. I love to eat out but M. isn’t a fan. So we compromise. Haha! Next best thing. 😉 I also love “day in the life” posts. It totally fulfills that voyeuristic side of me! And it’s not a Kincade, it’s a painting by my late grandmother — but Kinkade was her biggest inspiration so, yup, totally similar and she’d be flattered. ❤️

This is so beautiful. So simply, authentically beautiful. I really need to do this more often. We have more than enough “portraits” (since that’s my job) but not nearly enough day-in-the-life. Oh and video! I need to learn how to do videos.

Thanks so much. I must remember to do it more often, too. Oh, and I’ve been meaning to start making videos forever!! Must do it ASAP!!
