Free Desktop Background // I am not afraid.

Hello, dear friends. I’ve been inspired lately, making lists, setting goals, and manifesting dreams. While it’s all very exciting — it’s scary too. I used to be more of a risk taker. I wasn’t jumping out of airplanes exactly, but I quit my secure job to pursue my passions; I went to Kenya with a bunch of strangers; I traveled to Paris alone.

Then life happened and things changed for me. The crippling anxiety and depression that plagued me for the first half of my life crept back in. For a whole lot of reasons, my brave heart was stifled, and fear took over.

In some ways, it made sense. At that time, I was settling in to my roles as a wife and a mother. Those life changes naturally cause things to be different. Somehow I confused what was happening to me as normal. Sure, there were some things that were not preventable. Prenatal depression, babies who were poor sleepers, colic, and so on… But despite those things, there was nothing normal about the extent of my desperation or the way that fear had come to annihilate me. It was unhealthy. It was devastating. It was soul-crushing.

But the beautiful thing about it, is that I have emerged stronger than ever before. I am on the other side now. Like a seed that slept through a long winter, I am coming back to life, shedding the skin of fear, and growing back into an armor of strength. There are growing pains and hard moments, but mostly It. Feels. So. Good.

My newest free desktop background is a tribute to this new leg of my journey. It is a quote attributed to Joan of Arc, one of my namesakes. It’s been a long-time favorite that makes me feel powerful and capable. I hope that it serves as a light to you, as well.
