Hello friends & happy Monday! I hope that you had a beautiful weekend. As we kick off this new week, I wanted to share the last bit of Roman’s birthday celebrations. He knew that his Batman party was coming because he helped me plan it. But I also wanted to do something to surprise him. I had a few ideas in mind, but the one that I decided on was a trip into New York City and tickets to see the Lion King on Broadway.

I knew that he would love this for so many reasons. First of all, he has had a fascination with the city ever since he was a baby because Curious George was his favorite show. (That reminds me of the very first time I brought him into the city when he was so little.) Anyway, he loves everything about the city from traveling in “under water” through the big tunnel, to the skyscrapers, the taxis, and all of the excitement that comes with being inside of Manhattan.

I also knew that he would love the Lion King because it is one of his favorite movies. Going to see the show held a special sentiment for me because it brought back memories of when my dad brought my sister & I to see it in the movie theater way back when I was just 10-years-old.

Our day started with a car ride to our local shopping mall where we would catch the bus into the city. The bus took us into Port Authority and from there we walked around a little bit and then had lunch at Junior’s which was right next to the theater where we would see the show. After lunch we headed over to the theater and waited for the doors to open. Once inside, we stopped at the souvenir stand to get some candy and souvenirs for Roman and we picked out something special for Marina, too.

The show itself was stunning. My eyes filled up with tears during the opening scene. The joy of the moment combined with the gorgeous display of theater all caught up with me and tears of gratitude and awe fell from my eyes. Looking over at Roman and watching his eyes grow big with excitement was pure magic. He was such a good boy for the entire day, as he always is. After intermission and during the second act, he did get a little restless, but other than that he was a gem.

After the show we headed straight for our bus, it was already late in the afternoon and we got stuck in rush hour traffic. We were so exhausted by the time we finally got home, but our hearts were full. It was such a beautiful experience and I am so grateful that I got to share it with my sweet boy. I hope that you’ll enjoy these photos from our adventure.
