After a couple of weeks of relentless heat, it finally cooled down enough on Saturday so that we could hang out in our backyard for a little while. The yard is beautiful this time of year. Our black-eyed-suzies and hydrangeas are blooming. Our spearmint took off for the first time this year, too. The purple spearmint blossoms are so pretty. We love to walk Roman around the yard and let him take in all of the sights, sounds, and smells. Matthew put his face near the spearmint and — of course — he tried to eat it. I wonder if he’ll love the smell as much as we do someday.

I realize that these aren’t the most flattering shots of me. Bags under my eyes, still holding onto about twenty pounds of “baby weight,” hair and clothes a mess. I thought about leaving out the pictures with me in them or photoshopping my face; but then I thought that this is our truth right now. Mommy is always tired and Roman is always adorable. I want to look back on these times and remember just how difficult beautiful they really were.

Hope that you had a lovely weekend. Remember, there’s still time to enter the Easy Canvas Prints Giveaway.

  1. You look awesome! I don’t know about other new moms, but I love seeing photos of new moms! Not to compare, just to feel kinship almost: ) We may be tired, poochy, a bit disheveled…but we are also super amazing and so hard working!

Roman takes great pictures btw. Always looking at the camera with the cutest expressions: )

    1. Thank you! It is so nice to have other mamas to relate to — whether about sleeplessness, baby weight, or whatever. There is definitely a kinship among us and I am so grateful for it! xo

  2. you look beautiful, my love.
i love that you can get out in the fresh air and enjoy the day with your little guy, no matter how tired you feel.
your hair looks lighter? looks nice! <3

    1. thank you, darling! we always, always, always make time for adventures. since roman was born my new motto has become “i’ll sleep when i’m dead.” i’ve always been really attached to my sleep — but being a mama has changed that. i miss it terribly but i refuse to sleep through one minute of the magic. <3

  3. How old is your little man? He looks about the same age as my little guy. I feel the same exact way mama! I hate pictures of me because i always look or at least feel a mess but you aren’t! You are beautiful! and so is your gorgeous little family!

  4. I do the same thing with pictures of myself, overanalyzing and not wanting to post them! I’m so glad that you decided to include these, these photos of you and Roman are so gorgeous and peaceful and someday when he is much much bigger you will treasure having them so much!
