the park at sunset

“Through the blur, I wondered if I was alone or if other parents felt the same way I did — that everything involving our children was painful in some way. The emotions, whether they were joy, sorrow, love or pride, were so deep and sharp that in the end they left you raw, exposed and yes, in pain. The human heart was not designed to beat outside the human body and yet, each child represented just that — a parent’s heart bared, beating forever outside its chest.” –Debra Ginsberg

Over the weekend, we had a couple of warm days and I just had to spend them outside. There’s something so magical about winter sunsets in the northeast. The sky looks like watercolor and the branches look like spilt ink. It takes my breath away every time.

As my due date draws closer, I’ve been thinking so much about motherhood. I’ve been cherishing every moment that I have with Roman so very tightly. Soon there will be two. I think of the love that I have for him — of how all-consuming it is — and I wonder how my heart can hold anymore. It’s already full to the very brim. But I know that it will grow & stretch. Just when we think our capacity for love has maxed out, we make more room. It’s the most beautiful (and, yes, sometimes painful) process, isn’t it? ♥
