Hello, sweet friends! I hope that your October has been beautiful so far. It is my favorite month of the year and we’re gearing up to do all of my favorite October things. We’re having a little Halloween party in a couple of weeks and I started sorting through some of my old party posts looking for inspiration.

Every time I look these old party posts, I am so filled with joy. Planning parties has been such a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Lately there seems to be a major pregnancy/baby boom among my friends & family, so I thought I’d share a few tips for planning a gender reveal party today! These tips are specific to a gender reveal, but really most of them can be applied to all kinds of parties. I hope you enjoy the tips, along with a little trip down memory lane to some snaps from our past parties.

A reveal party is a fun way to reveal the gender of a baby to friends and family. There are so many ways to reveal the sweet surprise. Here are some tips to help plan a great gender reveal party:

1. Pick a Theme
First of all, choose a theme. A general theme for a gender reveal party is the simple pink and blue, but there are many options to choose from. Some people decide to go with a sports theme, an award show theme, or even a seasonal theme, while others opt for a more classic “Beau or Bow” or “Prince or Princess”. One thing to keep in mind is that this is a party for the mom to be to celebrate her future child, so pick something that interests her.

2. Pick a Way to Reveal the Gender
Here is the fun part! For the main event, choose an object that will reveal the gender to everyone. This is the most memorable moment for everyone, especially to the soon to be parents. Some options for this include the super fun gender reveal cannon, a box filled with balloons, a silly string war, or cutting a cake open.

3. Pick the Decorations
Go for decorations that really bring your theme to life. You can buy kits that include many items, buy items separately, or go the DIY route. No matter what theme you choose, you can always have a banner or sign near the door asking the big question: Boy or Girl, He or She.

4. Pick Activities
Next, you’ll want to decide on some activities and games for everyone to play. Some ideas include: a guessing raffle based on the ultrasound pictures, trying old wives’ tales, having guests come dressed in their guess of blue or pink, or making a time capsule for the baby after the gender is revealed.

5. Pick Food
Usually, gender reveal parties don’t last very long, so it’s ok to skip the meal. However, snacks, appetizers, and fresh fruit and vegetables are go-to good ideas to serve your guests. Typically, cake or cupcakes are always served along with the reveal. You can buy colored drinks, such as blue raspberry and pink lemonade, or make some mixed (non-alcoholic) drinks yourself. Some people even make food and drinks to match the theme.

6. Pick a Way to Document the Event
This is a day that the parents to be will want to remember. Whether you opt for cutting a cake open or the gender reveal cannon, this is one moment that will be precious to look back on. One option is to hire a professional photographer or videographer. If you or someone you know is good at recording videos or taking photographs, another, more affordable, option is to ask if they would be willing to volunteer to document the day’s events. You can even go one step further and create a scrapbook, physical or digital, to keep the day memorable.

Overall, a gender reveal party doesn’t have to be an extravagant event if you don’t want it to be. It can be an intimate gathering between close family and friends or you can go all out for it, it’s totally up to you (and the mom to be). However, you choose to plan the gender reveal party, remember that this should be fun and relatively simple. The actual reveal will be the highlight and everything else comes after that. Enjoy this process and have fun with it!

Happy party planning, friends. Love always–
