When I was a little girl, my grandmother — Mom Mom — was my best friend. I loved to visit her. I loved to play with her button tin. She would take care of me when I was sick. I would spend the night and we would watch silly (to little me) British comedies. My Mom Mom was magical. She always made me feel better and everything that she cooked was delicious.

When I was a very little girl, I received my Bowsie as a gift. Bowsie was my sweet stuffed bunny. In the way that many little ones need a teddy or a blankie to sleep, I needed my Bowsie. She was my favourite. Over the years, she got worn down — as favourite toys tend to do. She got dirty and raggedy and she often got holes. We always sent her over to my magic Mom Mom and she would send her back home to me clean, sewed up, and ready to be loved some more.

One day, many years after I first received Bowsie, I sent her over to Mom Mom and she had some bad news. Bowsie was beyond repair. The fabric that made her fragile body was threadbare, all of her stuffing had disappeared, and she was stained beyond what could be cleaned. It was a sad day for me, but I was an older girl by then and I came to understand that nothing lasts forever. It was a hard lesson, but one that would stay with me always.

A few months ago, I was browsing around on Etsy and I stumbled upon a most wonderful little shop — Petroula Handmade. Inside of the shop, I found something that took my breath away — the sweetest bunnies that were just like my Bowsie! My heart sang. I knew that I had to have one. I talked with the shop owner (the lovely Petroula) and in a little while, one of her precious bunnies was on her way to me.

As I opened the package from Petroula, I was excited as that little girl who loved her bunny so much all those years ago. Petroula’s creations are incredibly lovely. They are handmade with such precision and quality — the kind that only comes from an artisan in love with what she does. I am so pleased to have this special gift in my home, to remind me of my Mom Mom and a special, little piece of my childhood.
