Book Review & Giveaway: The Smartest Woman I Know

DenaNovember 3, 2011

evolutionyou.net | The Smartest Woman I KnowRecently, my friends at TLC asked me to review this sweet little book. It is an ode written by a 75-year old granddaughter, to her long-gone grandmother, Ettie.

The book is a beautiful tribute full of cute quips. Ettie Goldberg was the wife of a candy shop owner. She and her husband, Mr. Goldberg, raised the author & her sister when their mother died and their “no good father” disappeared. Ettie never ran out of advice for her growing, changing granddaughter & much of it is shared in this book.

Ettie’s thoughts on therapy: “What you put in your stomach will make you feel better than what a man with a beard and an accent tells you about your mother. Ettie’s advice about dieting: “So I’ll give you some free advice how to lose weight. Don’t eat so much.”

Though Ettie herself had no more than a third grade education, the depth of her wisdom—about love & life; food & men; and everything in between—is pure genius. Her story will make you evolutionyou.net | flowersthink about your own grandmother and, if you open up your heart a little bit, it will make you laugh, cry, & remember.

The book’s publisher is generously offering 3 books for me to give away to my readers (US/Canada only). If you would like a copy for yourself or as a gift for a special lady in your life, just leave a comment below. I’ll select the winners at random next week.

xo,
Dena
