Hiking is one of my favourite things to do and I’ve been so excited to take Roman on his first hike. Unfortunately, in the spring I was recovering and then in the summer it was too hot. But this past weekend we were feeling great, the autumn air was just perfect, and off we went on our first hiking adventure. For our first trip out, we started easy with an hour-long hike around the Monksville Reservoir in Long Pond Ironworks State Park. We put Roman in his carrier and I held him on the walk out and M. held him on the way back. (Holy smokes, does that extra 18.7 pounds make a world of difference!) Roman absolutely loved it. I had a feeling that he would, but he enjoyed it more than I even imagined he would. Put two of his favourite things together — being outdoors and being carried — and he was happy as a pig in mud! He was so alert, taking in all of the sights, smells, and sounds of the forest. Hiking is one of our most cherished pastimes. It’s something that M. and I enjoyed together when we first started dating and something that we’ve only grown more fond of over the last seven years. We were so joyful & grateful to bring Roman into the fold and pleased as punch when he loved it, too. By the end of the trip, our little guy was tuckered out, just a couple of minutes from the car and I could see his little eyes starting to bob. By the time we reached the car lot he was asleep. The fresh air knocked him out.

We’re all looking forward to our next adventure.

So sweet 🙂 Some of my favorite memories ever are memories of baby wearing, which I still do sometimes with Asher. It is so special and yeah it is an awesome workout!

Is that a babybjorn? You HAVE to get a new carrier… as soon as my little one hit 12 pounds the babybjorn killed my back. Get an ERGO or similar type carrier, ok they can’t face outwards but you can put them on your back or front, and then you can walk for HOURS AND HOURS (and it is better for their hips and back). Seriously, it is so worth the money. Especially if you like hiking and your little guy likes being carried. Sorry if you have already discussed your carrier on here or you already have an Ergo, ha, I should probably read your whole blog before giving such a strong recommendation! sorry.
And it goes without saying that your little boy is so gorgeous, and I love his name!

Thank you so much for the tip. Honestly, my back and shoulders were killing me. Now I know why. I’m definitely going to look into another carrier! 🙂

These pictures are beautiful! Your post reminded me of how much I miss by baby-carrying days. My little Marshall (now 3!) always slept best on walks like that. Sweet times. Thank you for sharing.

my husband’s been dying to get back into hiking again this year. living in southern CA has kept us mostly indoors recently, being that it’s been in the 90s for months (it feels like…but probably not true). as soon as “fall” (don’t really get seasons around here) kicks in, we’re hitting the trails. your little hike looks so beautiful. great scenery.

San Diego, eh? I lived there for about a year and a half (Pacific Beach, to be exact) while going to college. And he should rave about it. It. Was. AWESOME. I lived blocks from the beach and would bike ride to the sand and hit up the bars on the way a little more than I went to class. Oops.
