  • She really is such a goofball and it cracks me up. I know that I say it a lot, but she is so different than me. My entire life I have looked at outgoing people in awe. I cannot imagine having the natural inclination to be loud in front of large groups of people, to be silly without reservation, to (heaven forbid) draw attention to myself. And now, here is my daughter, she does all of those things effortlessly. I find it such a privilege to be raising such a sweet, rambunctious little soul — and, my, such a learning experience!

  • Just made a new blog post today on one of my big areas of focus from last year, which was sustainable living. I had big ambitions to live more sustainably in 2018. Although I didn’t accomplish everything on my list, I made progress. I shared some of the things that have been working to help us live greener, especially around the kitchen & during our visits to the grocery store & farmer’s markets.
•
I have a few different styles and sizes of reusable baggies for buying produce. I love both the reusable cotton produce bags and the mesh produce bags. Aside from being good for the environment, they are also beautiful.
•
The biggest key, with both the produce bags and the grocery bags is to make sure that you’ve got them with you when you head out to the store or market. That’s why I try to put them right back into my car after I unload my groceries, because I never remember to grab anything when I’m running out the door. •• Read the full post, including a Shopping List of my favorite “Green Things” at LiveLoveSimple.com •• Direct link in my profile. 🌿🌿✨
  • Sometime in the last month, Roman started to read. Of all of the miraculous things I have witnessed in my time as his mother, this has perhaps been the most amazing.
🌿
Somehow, I have always struggled to imagine that tremendous leap that occurs when a child goes from not reading to reading. It is the most precious of moments–something like the most beautiful light shining into a world of previous darkness. Like that moment when the Wizard of Oz switches from black & white to color, pure magic.
🌿
Back when I was homeschooling him and teaching him his letters, the idea that he would one day be reading almost felt like an impossibility. And yet, here he is reading. He knows all of his sight words and he is sounding out more words by the day. It is the most incredible blessing to witness...

  • “The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can’t be any large-scale revolution until there’s a personal revolution, on an individual level. It’s got to happen inside first.” —Jim Morrison 🌿🌿🌿 #livelovesimplehome
  • “Wild Geese” | by Mary Oliver
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting–
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
  • 2015: Survive
2016: Bravery
2017: Strength
2018: Build
2019: ABUNDANCE
•
My words of the year, these last five years, tell a story. My story of surviving, of bravery, of strength, of rebuilding, and of — at last — thriving in the abundance that God has provided for me. • •
The other day I was digging through old emails and I stumbled on something that took me back to the most painful place I have ever known. In that moment, it was like I was back there, back in the place I believed I could never escape. As painful as it is, the beauty of it is that I can turn away now. I am no longer there. My life is different. There are some things that we will never, fully, be able to escape; but at least now I am able to turn away.
•
These last years I have fought my way out. In many ways, you have witnessed my climb, my clawing, and scratching, and blindly finding my way to the surface. And while the path never truly ends, because climbing is a lifetime endeavor, I can say with confidence that I am on the other side now. 2018 gave me one final shakeup, an absolute tidal wave hellbent on knocking me off the path, and it did. But my progress was not lost and in my final stretch of that hellish trial of a year, I stepped boldly into the most beautiful light that I have ever known. I made it to the other side of the river.
•
Now, the real magic begins. After years of learning how to survive, of learning how to be strong, of building the literal foundation on which I will live the rest of my life: I am here. This is the year that I will step into the abundance of Grace. I am ready for an abundance of joy, an abundance of success, an abundance of adventure, and an abundance of love. And all of it is flowing toward me in beautiful waves now.

I am going to work so hard and so smart this year. Last year, I learned why discipline is so important. Discipline is the strongest form of self-love. It is knowing when to ignore current pleasures for rewards bigger to come. Discipline is loving yourself enough to give yourself everything you’ve ever wanted.

  • January afternoon walks with my girl. ❄️ My heart is so full, friends. I spent the last four months of 2018 praying, visualizing, creating, & manifesting. When the new year started I was literally surrounded by all of the things that I had hoped & prayed for. These days I am working harder than ever & putting as much of my soul as possible into my life, into my work, & into my people. I am not going to sleep on these blessings that God has given me. You can take that to the bank. We’ve got a new moon & it’s Capricorn season. That means go-time: steady, determined, inspired work. It’s time for new beginnings, deep love, & all the magic that you can possibly dream up. 🌙 I hope that your 2019 is off to a beautiful start.
