Unicorn Birthday Party

A few months ago, Marina and I were laying in my bed cuddling and I asked her what kind of birthday party she wanted to have this year. I threw out a few options including mermaids, rainbows, and unicorns. I thought she would choose mermaid, but she chose unicorns. Then we spent a little time scrolling through some unicorn inspiration and she chose a few of the decorations that she liked, but what she was most excited about was her unicorn cake.

As the date of her 3rd birthday approached — March 20th — I wasn’t sure if I was even going to have a real party or if we would just celebrate at home with me, her and Roman. Then one night, less than a week before her birthday, a bout of insomnia hit me and I decided to plan the party. A bunch of Amazon purchases, a message to a talented baker, and one trip to Walmart later, and I had everything we needed to throw a fabulous unicorn birthday party.

On the morning of her party Marina let me curl her hair for the first time. We put on her “pink unicorn princess dress” and had the sweetest little photo shoot. We blew up balloons, hung garland, put out snacks, and then waited patiently for friends and family to arrive.

It was such a special day and I am so grateful that the people that we love make my sweet girl feel so very special. Watching her blow out her candles was one of the best moments of my life. I have never seen her face so full of joy and excitement. I know that I say it often, but there really are no words in any language to express how grateful I am to be a mama to my sweet babies. My cup truly runneth over.

I took a bunch of photographs. (Shocker!) There are so many here, but I just can’t narrow them down any further because I love them all so much and want to remember this special day forever.

the whole world around you
because the greatest secrets are always hidden
in the most unlikely places.
Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”

“Magic exists. Who can doubt it,
when there are rainbows and wildflowers,
the music of the wind and the silence of the stars?
Anyone who has loved has been touched by magic.
It is such a simple and such an extraordinary part
of the lives we live.”
