All of the Cozy

DenaFebruary 13, 2020

Hello, sweet friends! Happy Thursday and Happy Valentine’s Day Eve. After what felt like ages, the sun finally came out yesterday and it was beautiful. Unfortunately, it’s disappeared again today though. Don’t get me wrong, I love the rain, there is nothing more cozy than a nice gray, rainy day for cuddling up in blankets with a good book or movie. But this winter, instead of our typical Northeastern snowstorms, we’ve gotten rain, rain, and more rain. There’s only so much cold, gray, and mud that a person can take.

Still, I’ve been working to make the best of it and soaking in all of these gray, wintery days while I can, because I know that spring is just around the corner. I am still in hibernation mode. I truly believe that all seasons should be embraced and enjoyed. Intentional, seasonal living has been a big priority for me and these days I am moving more deeply into it than ever. Each season has a significant and important part in our lives, so even though I may complain occasionally, I am embracing the weather, the good and the (so-called) bad.

Lately, I’ve spent a lot of time journaling and reading and it feels so good. Most of the time I am sitting at my desk, but on particularly gray days like this, I can’t help but sneak into my bed and do some “work” there. I’ve mentioned before that I have a stretch goal to read 52 books this year, and I’ll seek to reach that goal in whatever way is the most comfortable. If that means reading in bed more often, then I’m all for it.

Speaking of my bed, it is my favorite place in the entire house. I mean everyone loves their bed, right? But I am obsessed with mine. It is my place of comfort, solace, and rest. We’ve been looking into a new comforter because our old one is coming apart at the seams. I am loving these luxury comforter sets from Latest Bedding. I have my eye on the pink and green floral set because it would fit so nicely with the colors in the bedroom, plus it would be such a lovely way to usher in spring. But I digress.

Back to getting cozy… one of the things that I’ve really been trying to embrace this winter has been the Danish term, “Hygge,” which translates to cozy, but it’s so much more than that. The Danish embrace Hygge as a way of “surviving” winter and delving into the feelings of coziness, comfort and contentment that can only be experienced in the heart of the cold seasons. Warm drinks, blazing fires, scented candles, and soft, warm fabrics are all ways to bring that feeling into your home and your life.

We’re half way through February here now. March is coming up quickly and that can mean many different things for us here in the temperamental Northeast. March might bring an early spring and warm weather, or it could bring freezing temperatures and a lot of snow. There is no telling yet, but either way, I am looking forward to what it will be. In the meantime, I’ll be over here cuddled up with my tea, blankets, books and journal.

Warm, happy wishes to you, sweet friends. xo
