Baby Wears: Roman James in Poppy Rose (& A Giveaway!)

My commitment to simplicity, has made me understand that quality is of the highest importance. Throughout my pregnancy and throughout Roman’s first six months, I’ve been continually challenged to maintain simplicity in the face of the sheer volume of “baby stuff” that’s out there. However, despite that, I’ve managed to do pretty well. It often means turning down “gifts” from well-intentioned family & friends — and that’s not always easy — but it works for us. With that said, even though Roman does not have a lot of stuff, he does have some stuff. (After all, I do clothe him, feed, him and entertain him!) 😉 For example, he does not have many toys, but the toys that he does have are extremely well-made and will remain relevant to him through his toddler years.

Louis-PetrolWhen it comes to babies, clothing is perhaps the most difficult area to keep simplified. When you are pregnant/when you have a newborn, you get bombarded with cute outfits. Additionally, you yourself, as a new mother, are tempted by all manners of adorable-ness everywhere. Plus, babies are constantly growing so, no sooner do you have something new than baby has already outgrown it. Still, I have successfully managed to keep Roman’s wardrobe simple in the midst of it all. I have accomplished this by buying pieces that are at least three months ahead of his current size and by only purchasing/accepting a very select, few pieces that will stand the test of time. His new knit sweater from Poppy Rose is one of those pieces.

Poppy Rose is an exclusive childrens clothing brand with the creative heart of Minna Speerschneider Larsen behind it. The motivation for the unique styles comes from a vision of combining simplicity and quality — quality in particular being an area that will never be compromised. Each season has its significant selection of knit in either merino wool or blended merino wool with cashmere/alpaca for winter and fine pima cotton for summer. Poppy Rose only uses high-quality, pure materials — which is exactly what I look for in clothing for my baby.

I just adore this beautiful, knit sweater that Poppy Rose sent to us to review. The knit collection is made of soft, washable, merino wool and alpaca blends which are perfect for the cold winter. I know that Roman will be wearing this beautiful piece through autumn, winter, and all the way until spring. Poppy Rose also sent us one of the sweet bibs from their collection. Just like the sweater, it is impeccably made. The beautiful plaid front is incredibly soft and the underside is a soft, grey velour.

I totally agree with you on the whole simplicity thing! Rob’s parents are aware and have been real good about not giving us too much (it’s hard when he’s their first grandkid). I also want to try and limit battery toys and toys that don’t inspire thinking and imagination.

Clothes is tricky though! Everyone loves to buy clothes. I’m slowly starting to learn about buying bigger and better quality if I can. I also have a nice consignment store and Good Will that I have bought most of his clothes from. Which I will in turn try to sell back or donate.

We only have one battery toy and it was a baby shower gift. Roman doesn’t even really like it yet. There are lots of battery toys at my Uncle’s house and he seems to enjoy them. I like it that he can play with them there, but I don’t plan on bringing any into our house at least for awhile.

Consignment stores are great. We have lots of nice ones around. I got Roman a beautiful second-hand sweater at one.
