The Hunter’s Moon

DenaOctober 19, 2013

Last night was the beautiful, full, Hunter’s Moon. I snuck outside to snap a few photographs after Roman was asleep. I have always been drawn to the moon. There is something undeniably magical about it. Sometimes it takes my breath away. For ages, farmers, sailors, and other sky watchers have used the Moon to predict the weather. Ancient people worshiped the moon as a Goddess. I believe that the moon has a pull on all people, just as it has a pull on the ocean tides. It effects our moods, our thoughts, and our behaviors. In some people the pull is stronger than others. When I stare up at the night sky I am humbly reminded by how small I am in the vast universe; by what an incredible miracle it is that I even exist at all; by how precious every moment of my short & wonderful life really is.

My first adult job was to work at Terrell State Hospital on a lock up unit. At the same time I was doing this I took a psychology course at a local tech college. We did a study on how the full moon affects the mentally ill and I can tell you from first hand experience it does. Sort of weird and creepy.

Wow! What an incredible experience, James! I’m telling you — there is no doubt in my mind, either. I see it with my husband & with my son. They are both STRONGLY impacted by the moon. I think that we all are. I imagine that it is much more noticeable in the mentally ill because in some cases they have less control over their natural impulses. It really fascinates me. Thanks for sharing!! xo
