This Week // 01.30.15
I always mention the weather but it’s such a big part of life for us this time of year. The past couple of weeks have brought us snow day after snow day. By mid-week we were all a little stir crazy in this house. So we resolved to have a “day out” come what may. Luckily, the weather cooperated and we went to Chili’s for lunch. (I’m obsessed with Chili’s cheeseburgers but what I didn’t know is that they have a great little kid’s menu — drink, entree, & a side all for $4.99.) Then we headed to Home Depot to pick up a screw that was missing from baby girl’s bassinet and seed starter soil because we’ll be starting some of our garden veggies indoors soon. We had a nice time at lunch. You can’t go wrong with guacamole & cheeseburgers, right? And Roman had fun riding in the “race car” shopping cart at Home Depot.
Sure, it wasn’t the most exciting outing, but with an injured Papa and the bitter winter weather, we’ll take what we can get. In less happy news, I took Roman for his third haircut yesterday and it is a catastrophe. I am horrified at the cut! I seriously don’t know how things went so wrong — I mean I showed her a picture of what I wanted! But it’s just awful. I guess it was bound to happen at some point. Gratefully, we don’t have anything important coming up and I can sort of cover it up by styling it with gel. It’s definitely a lesson learned and I now know exactly what to tell the stylists not to do. (The snap of Roman at the top of the post was taken the day before the cut. And no, I’m not going to post a picture of the horror.)
Every January, my great uncle who lives in Florida, sends my mom a giant box of fresh, Florida citrus. It’s something that we always look forward to around here. My mom is generous enough to share some of the fruit with our family and we’ve spent the past couple of weeks savoring our oranges.
We’ve also checked several more items off of our Operation: Declutter 2015 list. The progress is truly palpable now and time spent in the finished (or close-to-finished) rooms is wonderful. I can’t even explain how much more peaceful and lighter I feel inside of a clutter-free room. It’s the best. One of our greatest accomplishments was a final purge of the toys which resulted in cutting the collection from four unsightly, overflowing bins down to one orderly basket.
That’s about all that’s been going on this week. I hope that you’ve had a lovely week and that a beautiful weekend is on its way. xx
