30-Day Blogging Challenge Day 2: 20 Facts About You

DenaNovember 2, 2013

Here are 20 facts about me:

    1. In 2006 I participated in a study abroad program in Kenya, Africa.
    2. My favourite flavor of ice cream is chocolate chip mint.
    3. I have 4 tattoos.
    4. I currently have my nose and bellybutton pierced but I also had my tongue pierced for 12 years.
    5. My birthday is on Cinco de Mayo.
    6. My mother had a long, difficult labor with me and I had to be removed with forceps.
    7. I have a crooked smile. (The left-side of my mouth doesn’t go down). May be a result of being taken out with forceps.
    8. My entire family (mom, dad, sis) are all Leo’s but I am a Taurus.
    9. I slept with a dedicated nightlight until I was 19-years-old. I still leave the hallway light on when M. isn’t home.
    10. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English with a Creative Writing Focus.
    11. Poetry was my first love. My first manuscript was titled, “A Taxonomy of Loss.” I still hope to publish it one day.
    12. All through childhood, I wanted to be a marine biologist or zoologist. I gave up the dream in high school because I was (am) terrible in math & science.
    13. I have taken two significant solo trips — first to Seattle when I was in college, then to Paris a few years ago.
    14. I used couchsurfers.com & stayed with “strangers” during my trip to Paris. Two of the most wonderful women I know to this day!
    15. I have a pretty good singing voice. I sang lots of solos in elementary school & traveled to England & Wales with my high school chorale.
    16. I am a big animal lover & I’ve always had pets. My first memory is of wishing for a kitten or puppy on my 4th birthday.
    17. I’ve never lived anywhere that was more than an hour drive from the place that I was born.
    18. I have one sister & she is younger than me. I am the stereotypical older sister. I’ve always been the motherly one in my groups of friends.
    19. I am extremely particular (read: hard to live with) I can’t fall asleep with any noise whatsoever & I wake up at the drop of a pin!
    20. I am extremely emotional. I cry during every sad movie and even during sad commercials. I wept over the Budweiser Clydesdale commercial…

Wow — talk about random! That was harder than I thought it would be! I hope that some of you will join me in the blogging challenge & share twenty facts about yourself, too. If you do, please leave a link below in the comments so that we can all check it out. xo

I was surprised when I saw you were doing the 30 day blogging challenge. I did that earlier this year and it was fun for the most part. I was going to link to my post BUT it appears the server that hosts lightourworld.com is down this morning for some reason. Contacting the provider and will post link later. Good stuff… Thanks for sharing.

Loved this – thank-you! Awesome that you have been to Kenya (how long were you there for? What did you do?) Write a post about it?) and did solo travel. I also did China by myself (I got to see the last of the hutongs in Beijing before they were all destroyed for the Olympics!), and when I ventured to Japan I was alone, too. I found there weren’t many other solo females when I was traveling, too. I hung out with other dudes for the most part.

I was only in Kenya for three weeks but it was an amazing three weeks! We spent 5 days in Nairobi at Kenyatta University. Then the rest of the time we were out on safari and then the last 5 days were spent on the coast of the Indian Ocean (literally on the beach) in Mombasa. It was, oh boy, no words. Yes, I did a short series of posts about the trip. It starts here and takes you through it: https://livelovesimple.com/hakuna-matata-kenya-part-1/

Solo travel is pretty intense and I am so glad that I did it, too. I also found few ladies on those trips & hung out with dudes, too. Met some of my best friends that way, too.
