“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As longs as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.” –Anne Frank

Hello, friends! I hope that you will forgive my unexpected absence. As it turned out, I did end up having the flu. It was pretty terrible. I haven’t been sick in nearly a year and then to get taken out like that was a complete shock. I was out of commission for a full 14 days. Well, I wasn’t completely out of commission, I suppose, single moms don’t get sick days. But we all made it through and more than anything else, I am so grateful that my babies didn’t get it.

In happier news, I am finally getting caught up and I’ve been wanting to share this post for awhile now. As part of my 2018 Sustainability Project, one of the things that I want to learn more about is sustainable hunting and fishing practices. I am really grateful to know someone who happens to be an expert in fly fishing. I’ve spent the last few months learning so much about it. A couple of weeks ago I finally got to see the process in action and it was so beautiful.

What I am learning is that fly fishing is so much more than a sport, it is a true art form. There is a rhythm and style to fly fishing, and there’s something infinitely serene about the practice. The more you learn about the art, the more you see how it is wrapped up in a passion for nature, conservation, and protecting the habitats of beautiful species of native fish. One of the amazing things about this style of fly fishing is that a barb-less hook is used, so that the fish is minimally harmed; and, this style is also catch & release, always gently releasing the fish back into the wild.

I absolutely loved getting to watch this beautiful practice for the first time and I can’t wait for the next adventure.
