The Simplest Days

I remain convinced that sometimes the sweetest days are the simple ones. Perhaps it’s because when I’m slowed down, not doing too much, I take the time to really observe and appreciate how blessed my life is. Roman has been sleeping in his room, in his swing, for a couple of nights now. And even though he’s still up every couple of hours to nurse/comfort nurse, it’s been glorious to sleep in my own bed again. I don’t know how long it will last and I don’t want to jinx it, but no matter, I’m just really grateful for it.

Today we got up well rested. Matthew & I had our long morning chat with our little man. Morning is one of the best times of day for us. Every day, Roman wakes up with the biggest smile, ready to play. It’s when we hold our best “conversations.” After that, Matthew went out dirt bike riding and we stayed behind to read some books. At 2.5 months old, he already sits, listens to the story, and stares intently at the pictures while mama reads to him. When Matthew returned, I swept our floors and then we all piled in the car for a little trip to Babushka’s (Matthew’s mother’s).

It really was a simple day, but simple can be so lovely. Parenthood has changed things so drastically for us. Gone are the days of doing whatever we please. We’re always taking turns holding him, watching him, and changing him. Every decision we make now ultimately ends up being about him. I knew that I was going to love being a mother, but as it turns out, I really really love being a mother. I feel like I am rediscovering the world through his eyes every day. There is so much magic to come.
