Work/Life Balance as a New Mom

Over the summer, when my maternity leave ended and I resigned from my job, I never anticipated that I’d be working more than ever. Of course I knew that being a stay-at-home-mom would require a ton of work; but what I didn’t expect was that this blog and my photography business would start to grow at such a rapid pace. I suppose that once the “drain” of working was gone, all of my creative energies were freed up to work on my passions. And the more positive energy that you give to something, the more it flourishes. It’s been incredible to watch these things take off but it’s also been exhausting. Caring for a four-month-old, taking care of my household, running a photography business, and managing a blog are taking it out of me. Still, it’s wonderful. Even though it feels like I am constantly working, it doesn’t feel so much like work because I’m doing things that I love. (This holds true for everything that I do except for housework. Housework always feels like work!)

With being so busy, I know that it’s important to find balance. Some people say that it’s impossible but I don’t believe that to be true. Balance is always possible. Exhaustion is inevitable when you have a newborn, but setting a schedule and sticking to it works. So that’s my current goal — to establish a reasonable, manageable schedule. I am not being naive, schedules are difficult, things happen. But working moms have to be at work every day from 9 to 5 and they manage to do it. Hopefully I’ll have an update soon on my new schedule and how it’s working out. Wish me luck.

Happy Friday and have a beautiful weekend! xo

This balance thing is really really hard. :-/ I got back to work when my daughter was 1 and it was hectic. Now I am back home with my son, but the idea of going back to work is paralyzing. And liberating at the same time. 🙂
    Good luck with your business!
