The 52 Week Project – A portrait of my son, once a week, every week, for one year.

29/52 — We’re back from vacation. I took this portrait on the first full day of our trip. We discovered a little playground up the street from our beach rental. It was the first time that we let Roman really go off on his own and explore a playground. Of course we stayed right nearby, but we are slowly giving him independence, not standing right behind him to catch every fall. His footing is steady enough now and it’s so beautiful to watch him beam with pride when he accomplishes things on his own.

He had a wonderful time running across the footbridge and worming his way through the tunnels. I sort of can’t get over how big & mature he is in this shot. It makes me proud and it breaks my heart, all at the same time.

Ahh how cute! I loooved the first time I let Lyla run around a playground alone. It was probably the cutest moment so far, seeing her making her own decisions and I got to learn more about her personality 🙂 Can’t wait to see the rest of the pics!

Adorable! We returned from multiple vacations not too long ago and getting back on a schedule is a nightmare! Are you having the same issues with Roman?

What a little man! The playground is always a great place to REALLY see how much they’ve grown. It’s like there’s something new Mia can do or is willing to try with each visit. Pretty cool, right? He’s so yum! -Misty

The park has been the site of many heart-stopping moments of both panic and pride for me. Such a fine line between being nearby to avert disaster and thwarting their growing independence. Beautiful shot though. You’ve captured his excitement perfectly.
