Homemaking: The Bedroom
As I mentioned here, one of my goals for 2014 is simplicity + organization. I am slowly making my way through each room in the house — getting rid of what we don’t need/use, organizing the necessities, and making things pretty. Over the weekend, I did some work in our bedroom. I cleaned the nightstands and put our new duvet cover (a Christmas gift from my mom) on the bed. It is from Pottery Barn and you can find it here. I’d fallen in love with creamy, ruched duvet covers while exploring Pinterest and I’m thrilled to have my very own on our bed. It’s so warming, bright, and just makes the whole space feel lovely.
As I mentioned above I’ve been taking my time as I move through the house. Reason being that I want to create sustainable change. I am thoroughly purging and organizing, rather than moving junk from one space to another as I have done in the past. It’s a challenging process — practically (because I have a nine-month-old at my heels) & emotionally (because I am letting go of a lot of things, some that hold sentimental value).
I’ll continue updating this space & sharing photos as I move through the rest of the house. In the meantime, you can follow my home design inspiration board on Pinterest for peeks into what’s to come.
Check out the bedroom furniture selection at Furniture.com to find some pieces to help finish your room project.
If you’ve any good tips for organizing, please let me know in the comments. I’m not very good at this & can use all the help I can get!

Love this. I need to start purging and organizing again as well. We got rid of most of our belongings when we moved across the country, but we’ve already accumulated so much junk since July!

I can’t believe it’s been since July that you moved! I feel like it was just last week. How time flies…

It’s SO hard purging. I remember when I had to do that for the first time when we moved into a 600 sq ft apartment in NY. It was one of the hardest things I had to do, a lot of teen memories I kept. After that, it’s been easier to purge.
BTW, I just can’t get over how much I love the color of your bedroom walls!

It really is hard. And thank you, I love the wall color, too. Next time we paint, we’re going to paint the whole house white! It will be a stark change since our walls are all rainbow colors now. I’ll miss it — but my style has evolved since we moved in five years ago.

your home pin board looks very similar to mine! how have i not been following your boards until now?? (yup, just started!). girl, you and i have been doing the exact same thing. i’ve been making organization and simplifying my mission this year. and just like you said, it’s SUCH a slow process having an energetic toddler running around the house and wanting to get into EVERYTHING mommy is doing. still, not gonna give up. oh, and how i wish i could have white or light bedding! dumb cats sleep on our bed day and night…and the dogs slide right up against the bed each morning when we wake up. ugh, all the hair and dirt!!! drives me CRAZY. this (and the kid) is why we can’t have nice things! 🙂 one day.

I have a dream catcher in my room, too! It’s over the crib. I bought it from the store where Lorra used to work in Vancouver.
