Nectarines

I was walking through the produce aisle the other day when I came upon nectarines. The very sight of the fruit brought tears to my eyes. Nectarines remind me of summer & family. Through my childhood, my family took a trip to the seashore every year. We would rent a motel room or a little house and spend a week playing in the sand, swimming in the sea, walking the boardwalk, and growing closer together.

Every morning my mother would wake up before the rest of us and pack our lunches for the beach. Sandwiches — and you can guess what kind of fruit. Yes, sweet and perfect nectarines. I will never forget those days. Warm sun making my brown skin browner; turning the bridge of my nose & the caps of my shoulders pink. I’ll never forget spending hours out in the surf with my sister and cousins, jumping over waves, getting knocked down, getting up again, holding my breath underwater and listening to the sounds of the sea.

It’s amazing how something as simple as picking up a nectarine can trigger such a flood of memories & emotions. That day in the grocery store, I filled a bag with nectarines. This morning I cut one up to share with Roman for breakfast. It got me thinking about my mother and those many days at the seashore. I hope that I can create such beautiful memories in Roman’s life, the way that my mother has done for me.

This brought back such sweet reflections for me as well. Although my children are grown and having families of their own, it reminded me of how precious special little details can be. Inspiration!!!

What a beautiful post 🙂 seeing hydrangeas brings me back to my childhood and spending summers outside gardening with my parents.
The black and white picture of you and your little one at the top right should definitely be framed!
