It’s hard to believe that this spring we will be celebrating two years in our home. The process of purchasing our home and then making it our own has been a wild ride full of twists and turns. During our first year here much of my focus was on getting settled in and making our house feel like a home. Over the last six months, I have placed a major focus on safety and making sure that our house is safe and secure at all times.

I had a home security system installed over the winter and this month I went about upgrading all of our smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. When deciding on which smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to use, I was set on installing First Alert alarms throughout our home. We have both the 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm and the 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Voice Alerts. The main reason that I chose First Alert is because these sealed battery alarms offer hassle-free protection that helps keep your home and family protected for a decade–yes ten full years!

As a busy mother and business owner, convenience and peace of mind are paramount for me. There are several benefits to using 10-year alarms, in addition to the peace of mind that it gives you regarding the safety of your family. It also means more saving and no costly battery replacements for the life of the alarm. It’s hassle-free and means no more climbing up the ladder to change batteries. And finally, without the trouble of batteries dying, there are no late night low-battery chirps.

When it comes to smoke and carbon monoxide alarms there are some general safety tips that we should all keep in mind. Here is a list of important tips to remember:

  • Install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every level and in every bedroom of your home.
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly.
  • Replace batteries every six months or upgrade to 10-year sealed battery alarms to eliminate the need for battery replacements for the life of the alarm.
  • Alarms don’t last forever, remember to replace your alarms at least every ten years
  • Plan and practice an escape route with your family.

Aside from offering 2-in-1 protection against smoke and carbon monoxide, these alarms also feature an end-of-life warning to let you know when it’s time to replace them. Along with the 10-year sealed battery, some First Alert alarms, also have voice alerts. This alarm will tell you the type and location of danger in your home. It is the ultimate in peace of mind for families.

Finally, and very importantly for us because we live in New Jersey, having alarms is the law! All states have legislation requiring smoke alarms and some states including New York and New Jersey have legislation that just went or will go into effect that requires 10-year sealed battery alarms. You can check the requirements in your state here.

I am truly excited about celebrating our two-year anniversary in our home this spring. We have already made so many beautiful memories here and I cannot wait to make even more. With spring just around the corner now, I am feeling all of the feels. I am ready to get the seeds started for our garden, to begin some outdoor projects, and to just be outside once again with my hands in the dirt. There is so much magic approaching as the turn of season nears and I can’t wait to experience it all with my littlest loves in our beautiful home.

Wishing you a happy & safe spring, my dear friends. Thank you, as always, for reading! xo
