Music Festival Must-Haves & Style

August 2, 2016

Music Festival Style // livelovesimple.com

There are so many things to love about summertime, but one of the best has to be live music. Am I right? I’m right. šŸ˜‰ Last year I had to stay away from the music scene because we were dealing with Marina’s colic. But this year, I’m back at it. It’s so nice that both of my babies have reached an age where we can get out and do things.

Day trips are my favorite and when we can squeeze in some fun + some music, I call it the best day ever. Recently, I’ve popped Marina in the carrier and we’ve headed out to some local venues to check out a couple of local music festivals.

It’s been a blast for me — and my goodness — that baby girl loves to wiggle to the music! Adorable as can be.

In honor of the fact that Lollapalooza is just wrapping up, I thought I’d put together a little post to share the things that I carry in our “festival” bag, as well as a few tips for practical (and cute!) festival style.

Festival Must-Haves:

1. CottonelleĀ® — Let’s be real, when you’re carrying around a toddler, things get Hot, with a capital H! It’s the best feeling to carry something in your bag, that leaves you feeling fresh and cool, no matter what. CottonelleĀ® knows it takes a bold confidence to go commando, but once youā€™ve got it ā€“ it makes all the difference. CottonelleĀ® with CleanRippleĀ® Texture is designed to clean better, so youā€™re clean & confident enough to go commando. CottonelleĀ® with CleanRippleĀ® Texture keeps you clean so you can rock out confidently this summer.

2. Sunscreen — I always carry something for me and something a little stronger for the babies. My daily moisturizer contains a bit of SPF, but I also carry an SPF 30 to put on my shoulders and back if we’ll be in the sun for awhile. I always keep the littles covered in SPF 50, all over.

3. Shades and Hats — We’ve got to keep our pretty eyes covered, too. I never leave home without my aviators and I’ve got an assortment of sunhats to keep the babies shaded at all times.

4. Comfy Shoes — How cute are Marina’s little “boho” sandals? I adore them. They keep her cool & comfortable. When it comes to festivals, I usually rock a pair of flat white sneakers or flip-flops. When you’re on your feet all day, comfort is key!

5. Simple, Stylish Accessories — Marina is just getting to the stage where her baby hair is growing close to her eyes. We’re not ready to cut it yet, but an adorable pink bow clip keeps it pinned up and out of the way. For me, I chose a simple choker of wooden beads, perfectly “festival chic.”

6. Cool Summer Dresses — Standing and rocking out in the sun all day requires comfort and coolness. I chose a light, airy crochet dress for Marina and a cool, gauzy dress for myself. In matching shades of sunshine yellow, of course.

7. Lip gloss — Last but not least… I keep my makeup light all summer, but I never leave home without a favorite, sweet & shiny gloss for my lips.

Alright, I think I’ve covered all of the basics! So what do you think? Are you headed to any festivals or fun, summery events soon? If you don’t have any plans, don’t worry. You can enter to win an all-inclusive trip to Wanderlust 108 Festival in Miami on October 22, RIGHT HERE! Good luck.

Can we just stop for a second and talk about how crazy the past couple of months have been? Maybe it was retrograde? Maybe it was just me? Anyway… on top of the really big life changes that I’ve been going through (and will talk about one day) there’s been all sorts of other craziness. Namely, that plague that I wrote about in my last post ended up lasting for three weeks! In fact, Roman is still hanging on to a bit of a cough. I mean, we’ve all had colds before, but three weeks, going on four?! For real?

I finally took Roman to the doctor on Tuesday. Even though I knew we were all on the right path, I just couldn’t stand the thought of it being something more and letting it go untreated. Sure enough, the pediatrician confirmed that it really was just a lingering cold from hell and that he should be back to 100% soon.

On top of that craziness, I had an unfortunate series of events that led to me having a tooth pulled last week. Recovery from that has been slow-going and just a general pain in the… jaw.

At any rate, things have been stable for a few days now and I’m just starting to come up for air. It’s amazing how far “out of the game” my head goes when me and the babies are under the weather. While we were sick, I truly had to put life on hold. All of the big, pressing issues that have been weighing me down for the past few months were pushed to the wayside. Not to worry, however, they were all here waiting with a vengeance as soon as the dust settled.

In an effort to regroup, I took the quick drive up north to my parents summer home in the woods. One of the things that I love about coming up here is stopping into the grocery store and stocking up on our favorite foods & snacks. We always stop into the local ACME right before we hit the final stretch of drive into the campgrounds. By the time we get here, the babies are ready to tear into something delicious–usually graham crackers or something sweet, if I’m being honest. (Can you blame them, though?) šŸ˜‰

So since I already love ACME, I was really excited when I was invited to try out their NEW Signature line that includes more than 4,000 items–from coffee to juice, soup to cereal, fresh produce to fried chicken, and delicious prepared foods to trusted home staples–all with a 100% money back guarantee.

We’ve spent the past couple of days taking long walks in the woods and picnicking by the lake. Signature graham crackers and apple juice have been a welcome addition to the babies’ afternoons. And, Mama has been happy to add a little bit of extra sweetness to her afternoon tea, as well.

Cheers to products that we can love from stores that we can trust. To celebrate the new line, ACME invites shoppers to join in the conversation by sharing Signature stories, photos and videos online using #MySignatureMoments. I’m also really excited to be giving away a $25 gift card to ACME to one lucky reader. Use the giveaway widget below to enter. See terms and conditions for details.

No matter how crazy life gets, I’m so grateful to have these little, peaceful moments to sit back, take stock, and be grateful. Even when it’s really hard to find, there is always a bit of wonder & beauty tucked inside of the insanity somewhere. If you don’t see it yet, keep looking. ā™„

Child Safety with Levana

October 13, 2015

Levana Ovia // livelovesimple.com

Worrying is a part of parenthood. It just comes with the territory. What a lot of us don’t realize in advance is just how much worrying we’ll actually do. You simply can’t prepare for it.

The world is just one big hazardous playground. Little things that you never viewed as “dangerous” before, are suddenly perilous obstacles placed all around your little ones.

Levana Ovia // livelovesimple.com

As much as I’d like to place my babies in safe bubbles, that’s not an option. We have to go on living. All that I can do is make the best choices for my family and hope that I’m doing the right thing. Gratefully, there are products that make our world a little safer for my babies and a little easier on me, too.

Levana Ovia // livelovesimple.com

Since becoming a mama of two, the daily safety juggle has gotten all the more crazy. One thing that’s been helpful is our Ovia baby monitor by Levana. When Roman was born, I used a few of the gift cards that we received to purchase a simple baby monitor. It served us fairly well, but there were a few limitations that made it less than ideal. Then recently we were asked to review the Ovia and it provided solutions to all of those limitations and then some.

The Ovia features a silent pan/tilt/zoom camera that you control by touchscreen. That means when your little one moves, you can easily follow them. It also has Talk to Babyā„¢ two-way communication which not only allows you to hear baby, but also allows them to hear you when you choose.

Levana Ovia // livelovesimple.com

Before we got the Ovia, Marina’s naps were such a nightmare for me. As I’ve written about at length, she won’t sleep without me. She also won’t sleep with Roman in the room, because he’s just too loud.

Now that we have the Ovia, I can lay down with her and keep the monitor on Roman. Even when he’s all over his room, I can pan & tilt the monitor to keep an eye on him. One of these days, I’m hopeful that we’ll get our little Marina Grace sleeping on her own, but in the meantime, I’m grateful for this solution.

Levana Ovia // livelovesimple.com

Here’s a quick video of my munchkin being silly, playing with blocks in his room. It’s nice that the Ovia allows me to keep up with his antics, even when I’m in the next room.

Levana is dedicated to Baby Safety. Visit here to learn more about the Ovia. Also, Levana is giving away one Ovia monitor system. Use the widget below for a chance to win your own.

LAYOP Kids // livelovesimple.com

Along with this month’s portraits, I’m really excited to introduce you to LAYOP Kids. LAYOP stands for Live At Your Own Pace — a sentiment that I wholeheartedly support. It’s perfect for my little Roman who is constantly reminding me to slow down and enjoy life at a comfortable speed.

LAYOP started out as a clothing line for adults and this autumn they’ve launched a line for kids. LAYOP offers simple, clean designs on quality, timeless products. They sent us a few pieces from their children’s line to try out and we are impressed. In fact, Roman asks if he can wear his “turtle shirt” every morning.

The sketch turtle shirt that he is wearing in these photos is the softest shirt that he has. It has that comfy, worn-in feeling that you can usually only find in truly quality vintage t-shirts. I want it for myself! We also got a couple of adorable pieces for Marina that I’m just loving at the moment. My babies will be getting a lot of use out of these pieces.

Baby Soft // Pampers Swaddlers

September 11, 2015

pampers // livelovesimple.com

There was something so special to me about our hospital stays following the births of both of my babies. The hospital where I gave birth has a beautiful birthing center and the maternity recovery rooms have a lovely private homey feel. I know that many hospitals don’t afford this luxury to patients (nice, private rooms) and so I feel privileged that our experience was so positive. Even more important than the creature comforts, however, was the care that me & my babies received while we were there.

Several of the maternity nurses that cared for us were some of the nicest, most knowledgeable women that I’ve ever met. I felt so safe and at ease during our stays. Following both births, I had a million questions, and the maternity nurses were always happy to answer my endless stream of questions. They were also quick to make all sorts of helpful recommendations from breastfeeding tips, to the perfect swaddling technique, to what kind of diapers my baby should wear. The diapers that all of the nurses always recommended were Pampers Swaddlers.

Before becoming a mother, I didn’t understand what the big deal was about diapers. I figured that all diapers were created equally — or at least relatively equally — and that there wouldn’t be that much difference from brand to brand. Well, myself, along with every other mom on the planet, knows just how silly that theory was. All diapers are not created equally and there are big differences between diaper brands.

After Roman was born, we went home from the hospital with a package of Pampers Swaddlers that came in our “Welcome Baby” bag. Soon after they ran out and I started purchasing diapers, I went with a cheaper brand hoping to save some money and naively thinking it didn’t matter. All I can say is, “Holy leaks & blowouts!” It didn’t take long until we were stocked back up with Pampers Swaddlers again. Every time I switched away from Pampers, we had messes and even diaper rashes. The other brands that we have tried just did not keep my baby dry and were nowhere near as absorbent as Pampers.

Recently, when I was asked to review Pampers Cruisers & Swaddlers and to test out their new innovations, I was thrilled to do it. These are the two exact types of diapers that my babies are in anyway! (I switched Roman over from Pampers to Cruisers when he started crawling.)

Pampers & Cruisers feature stretchy sides for a comfortable fit and extra absorb channels & an absorb-away liner for dryness. They’re blankie soft, too. I could never give such a raving review about a product if I wasn’t speaking from the heart. These really are the diapers that my babies wear every day and I wholeheartedly recommend them.

As a part of this promotion, I am giving away a $75 Babiesā€œRā€Us Gift Card and a pack of Pampers wipes to one lucky reader. You can enter using the Rafflecopter giveaway widget below.

The new Pampers Swaddlers are available at Babiesā€œRā€ Us. If you create a registry while you’re there, you’ll get a gift of a wristlet & a free sample of the new Swaddlers from Septemberā€“October.

This post is in partnership with P&G and Pampers. I received samples of Pampers diapers & wipes as a part of this promotion. As always, thank you for supporting the companies that help to make this blog possible.
