Roman’s Baby Bath Routine

On Thursday, Roman James had his first bath in his “big boy” bath tub. The tub that we’re using is the Babies R Us Stages & Ages Newborn to Toddler Tub. I love the netting that goes across the top of the tub. It allows for baby to be just slightly dipped into the water without being submerged. It makes bathing an infant so much easier.

For the past six weeks I’ve been sponge bathing him. Babies start out with sponge baths until their umbilical cords have fallen off and healed completely. Although he’d been healed for awhile, I was nervous to put him in the tub, not sure how he would react. As it turns out, I had nothing to worry about. He was completely relaxed. In fact, he came close to falling asleep in there!

I try to use natural and organic baby products whenever possible. The chemicals and toxins in today’s products are terrifying. Since he was born, I’ve been using Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Bubble Bath to wash him. It’s 99.08% natural. It’s tear-free, so it doesn’t hurt his eyes. And, it leaves him smelling delicious. I also use it as shampoo and it makes his hair soft and fluffy.

Roman has had baby acne since he was a few weeks old. It kept getting worse with time. I found out that it is normal for babies, especially boys, and that it doesn’t hurt or itch them. Still, it looked awful. His pediatrician said that it would most likely go away on its own within three months. One day, while I was looking on Amazon for natural baby creams and oils, I came across California Baby Calendula Cream. The reviews were positive and a few said they had used it to treat baby acne. It contains all natural, sustainably grown ingredients. We’ve been using it for four days and the results are amazing. His baby acne is 80-90% cleared up. It’s been less than a week, so I want to make sure it’s not coincidence, but I am pretty certain that it’s not. In any case, his skin is definitely softer since we’ve been using it and it will continue to be a part of Roman’s skin care routine.

The last skincare product that we use is Earth Mama Angel Baby, Angel Baby Oil. It’s also natural and organic. I rub it on any especially dry areas. For example, his socks tend makes his feet dry, so I rub some oil on his feet and toes before I put his socks on. I also put a little bit on a q-tip before I clean his ears.

I am so impressed by what a good boy Roman was through his entire first bath. I hope that he continues to love water as he gets older. I cannot wait to take him for his first swim next summer. I always loved to swim as a child (still do!) and I hope that Roman is a little fish just like I was.

I absolutely LOVE this post! Roman looks just tickled during his bath time. My mom used to use bath time to get me to fall asleep when I was a baby, so relaxing!

Thanks, Katie. He loved it. Maybe one day I’ll get Roman to sleep in the bathtub — and then I can plop him in his crib. 😉 Wishful thinking. XO

    New reader here!

I use the Baby Burts Bees shower gel too and I usually finish up with their lotion or oil. I love to give my little guy the baths because I’ll smell nice afterwards too: )

Hi Suzy! So pleased to meet you. Thanks for stopping by. Do you use Burt’s Bees Baby lotion? I have their regular lotions and while they’ve always been pretty good on my skin, I tried them out on Roman’s and saw no improvement. It did make him smell nice though. 🙂

I do use the Burt’s Bee’s Baby Lotion, but Sam doesn’t really have dry skin. I’ve also used their oil after baths. (I had received Burts Bees gift set) I have used Earth Mama nipple butter on a few dry spots on him a couple times. I love that stuff since I can use it on both me and him.
