Last week, the temperature dropped and we turned the calendar over to September. Of course, I was feeling all of the autumn feels — equal parts sadness to see summer rolling to close and excitement about the magic that fall has in store for us.

On Saturday, I took my munchkins on a little day trip to one of our favorite places, Pennings Farm Market. Pennings is a family-owned farm in Warwick, NY. It’s about a forty-minute drive from our house and so worth it. My family has been visiting Pennings for as long as I can remember and one of my cousins worked there for many years, too. It’s a place that has only gotten better with time.

In addition to all of the fun, seasonal happenings there — pumpkin-picking, apple-picking, etc. — they also have a pub & grill. Their grill is one of my absolute favorite places to eat in the world. The food is always fresh and delicious. They use a lot of sustainable practices that make me so happy, like most of their food containers are recyclable which I love so much.

I love their entire menu, but every time I go, I end up ordering the Cape Cod Reuben. It’s a sandwich of lightly battered cod, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Russian dressing on a ciabatta roll. It’s served with a side of fresh cooked potato chips, or when I’m extra hungry I swap the chips for french fries. I’m often tempted to try something else from their menu, but I feel like perfection cannot be improved upon. Haha. They also have a fantastic craft beer selection and a beer garden. For the kids, there is a fun play area featuring a wooden train and a little petting/feeding area with chickens and goats. The farm market itself is full of fresh produce and specialty goods like local honey, jam, meat, and cheeses.

When we arrived on Saturday, we were so excited to see that all of the autumn and Halloween things were out in their full glory. I didn’t intend on buying anything, but we fell in love with this adorable jack-o-lantern lawn stake, so he came home with us. We’re eagerly awaiting the day when we put out all of our Halloween decorations out — which will be very soon — perhaps to our neighbors dismay. 😉

Enjoy the photographs from our day.

Had to get one last shot of that Reuben goodness. Yum!!

For my friends here in the US, I hope that you had a fantastic Labor Day Weekend. Yesterday we had a gorgeous barbecue at my mother’s house to commemorate the unofficial end of summer. Afterward, my sister and I brought all of the littles over here to my house for a bonfire, s’mores, and sparklers. It was a little hectic because these children were so exhausted after a busy weekend and staying up way past their bedtime, but I really can’t think of a better way to welcome in autumn than a bonfire, s’mores, and sparklers. Oh, September, you are a gem.

Yes, Pennings Farm Market is one of my favorites! Being a Warwick Resident for over 30 years, I’ve watched them grow and do it right! I would visit frequently with my little ones, who are now adults, and they continue to return to Pennings whenever they visit me here in the beautiful Warwick Valley! Their community mindedness is so appreciated.
