A couples of weeks ago, I attended a culinary wreath-making workshop at one of my favorite local farms, Pennings. You can check out some of my earlier posts from our Pennings visits here and here; and a trip to the Pennings Orchard when Roman was just a little baby, here. As you can tell, it’s one of my favorite places in the world.

Back to the workshop, I was nervous because I was going by myself and I have suffered from pretty severe social anxiety all my life. I am not “good” at new situations. I am not casual or cool or comfortable. I am intense and awkward and self-conscious. However, I’ve recently felt the pull–after many years–to start pushing myself outside of my comfort zone again. In my early & mid-twenties I pushed myself out of my comfort zone all of the time. I traveled to foreign countries alone. I became physically fit. I became a motivational speaker. Basically I thought of all of the things that I wanted to do but thought I couldn’t do–then I went and did them.

Looking back, that period of my life gave me positive growth more than any other. Over the last year and a half, I’ve been working back toward that space. It’s been a slow change. Since those days of adventure and personal growth, I did a backslide in another direction. I don’t regret what happened because my path shaped & strengthened me in invaluable ways. Yet, I’ve been preparing for this next shift and, although it was like turning a bus around on a very narrow street, I am here now.

As for the workshop, although I was scared, I went alone. This can be difficult for me because of my anxiety. But I went and it was a really wonderful experience. Not only that, but when I arrived, I discovered that the sweet and talented event organizer is a fan of my blog! I was overwhelmed with joy & gratitude at that unexpected discovery. She became a fast friend.

A long time ago one of my favorite quotes was, “Jump, and the universe will catch you.” The workshop was a little jump, but I’ve also made some enormous leaps, and without fail I am always caught. I am so excited about these next steps in my journey. Fortune favors the bold. Here are some more snaps from the workshop and in & around the gorgeous Pennings Farm Market.

I want to thank Pennings Farm for hosting this event. The wreathes were beautiful and it was such a fun night of being creative and making new friends. I’m looking forward to going back for another workshop later this spring.

Thank you for reading, friends. xo

It looks so pretty there! Those wreaths are actually gorgeous. I feel like the places around here that do art things all make hideous crafts haha. I wouldn’t have had the courage to go alone so I understand how big it was that you did, congrats 🙂
