A Hot Day at the Fair
Yesterday we made our annual family trip to the county fair. Now I’ve been going to this particular fair for as long as I can remember, and being that it’s in August, it is always hot. However, yesterday took things to a whole other level. For the first time that I can recall, every single person that we passed was visibly sweating through their clothing. Heaven help me, it was sweltering. The fair opens at 10 am and I thought that getting there early would help the matter, but it didn’t. It ended up putting us so close to the noon day sun and it was pretty unbearable.
Our first stop was into the craft tent to get some tie-dyed bucket hats for my little ones. Even though they were lathered in sunblock I had to keep the sun from their eyes and especially from the top of Roman’s head. After that we made our way around the fair slowly, and I constantly made sure that we each had a cold drink in hand. Despite the heat, we managed to have so much fun. I love this fair because it’s in the middle of farm country and it reminds me so much of the fair in Charlotte’s Web. There are lots of things like farm animals, biggest vegetable competitions, locally made honey, and so much more that you only find out in the middle of farmland. There are also all of the other regular fair treats like rides, games, and — my favorite part — every wonderful, delicious kind of bad-for-you food.
This year, I let my babies go on the carnival swings. It was definitely the highest, fastest, most thrilling ride that they have ever been on and watching their faces absolutely light up when it hit full-speed was the most precious thing. I was trying to take pictures, but my own eyes were filling up with tears and laughter, so it was hard. I didn’t take nearly as many pictures as I wanted to of the entire day because it was just too hot. Next year when we go back, I will make certain that we go later in the afternoon into the evening to beat the heat a little more. I hope you will enjoy the rest of the snaps that I did manage to take.
Wishing you the most beautiful summer days & memories. Lots of love to you always, friends. xo

I always reference Charlotte’s Web when it’s fair time. I’m glad someone else does too. As someone involved in producing the fair, I’m glad you had a good day.

Thank you for stopping by, Kathy! It’s so wonderful how it is reminiscent of the magical Charlotte’s Web. Thank you for your work in producing the fair. It is such a blessing to all of us who get to enjoy it! ♥️

What fair is this? I used to go to the Clearfield Fair growing up – memories that will last a life time. I will have to look for a nearby county fair to take my children to – it’s a great tradition!

This is the Sussex County Farm & Horse Show, also called the New Jersey State Fair! Such a wonderful time.
